A page where I’m adding all the things I’m working on around the house.

My Projects

This is the hands-on side of my life.

Not just ideas, but the real work. The projects around my house, yard, vehicles, and whatever else I’m trying to build, fix, improve, or figure out as I go.

A lot of this ties into the bigger picture of this site. Health. Home. Rebuilding. Self-sufficiency. Trying to make life work better instead of just talking about it.

Some of these projects are practical. Some are overdue. Some are half-finished. Some are probably going to take longer than I thought they would. That’s just real life.

If you want the project side of This Old Man’s Life, this is where it starts.

The House

The house is the biggest project on the list and probably the most personal.

It is not just a structure that needs work. It is tied up with family history, loss, repair, memory, and the long job of trying to turn this place into something that feels like home.

A lot of the work is practical. Floors. Repairs. Cleanup. Room-by-room improvements. Fixing what has to be fixed and trying to make the place function better day to day. But there is also more to it than that. I am not just patching up a house. I am trying to build a life inside it.

This section is where I’m collecting the house side of that work.

Front section of the house.  At the time of the picture, i'd just finished tearing down the ramp that led up to the porch.  Still a LOT to do to the house, inside and out.  But time & money make it a slow process.

the Yard

The yard has more going on than it looks right now.

It’s fenced, mostly flat, and currently rough — overgrown in spots, brush piled up, a fallen tree that crossed over from the house project into this one. But there’s a real plan behind it, designed out in SketchUp.

The goal is to turn this property into something that actually works — food production, a garden, some peaceful spaces, and eventually a garage off the south end of the house. Long-term project. Documenting it from the rough start to wherever it ends up.

Part of a growing pile of brush from around the yard, along with some trash thrown on it.  Would have liked mulching the brush up but don't have a mulcher, so had to take my time and slowing burn some at a time.  Just the beginning.

The Armada

My 2004 Nissan Armada is my daily driver. It’s got miles on it and needs the occasional repair — that’s just what keeping an older vehicle looks like.

The goal isn’t to make it perfect. It’s to keep it safe, dependable, and from becoming a money pit. I track every repair and every dollar. Partly for my own records. Partly because somebody else out there is probably dealing with the same truck.

my ’93 Blazer

Originally bought it for my wife.  She ended up blowing the engine and transmission out.  It sat for a few years, I had to buy a new engine for it and have the transmission rebuilt. Ran good until warranty on transmission expired, now tranny is going out again so its been parked.

*Poor thing has been put on the back burner for unknown time now.  When tornado came through earlier in 2024 it blew over the old maple tree onto the blazer.  So now it needs lots of work, and I haven’t the time or money.
