Welcome to This Old Man’s Life

Hey – I’m Chris.

I’m in my early 50s (turning 54 soon). I work early-morning retail shifts, and I’m rebuilding my life from scratch.

In February 2025, I had a triple bypass. Scared the hell out of me.  It was a turning point. It made me take my health — and my time — seriously.

Before that, I lost my mother in 2023 after watching dementia take her piece by piece. That loss shook me in a way I can’t fully explain.

After everything hit at once, I stepped away from work that wasn’t good for me anymore and took a retail job to cover bills while I reset.

I’m not trying to present a polished transformation here. I’m documenting the real process of starting over — one small step at a time.

What This Site Is About

I focus on three pillars:

1. Healthspan – Living better, not just longer
More energy. Less pain. Actually feeling good in my 50s instead of just surviving.

2. Lifespan – Adding years worth living
Preventing another heart attack. Staying around for my kids. Making it to 80+ and actually enjoying it.

3. A Level 10 Life – A simple system for balanced improvement
I rate 10 areas of my life (health, home, finances, etc.) and work on improving them one at a time. No overwhelm. Just steady progress.

If You Only Read 3 Things, Start Here

Start with these:

1. My Unexpected Journey to Triple Bypass Surgery– The wake-up call that changed everything.

2. Cardiac Rehab– What recovery looks like for me after surgery—simple routines, small wins, and steady progress.

3. A Level 10 Life – A simple system for balanced improvement
I rate 10 areas of my life (health, home, finances, etc.) and work on improving them one at a time. No overwhelm. Just steady progress.

Where I’m At Right Now

Right now I’m focused on three main things: getting my physical health dialed in after the surgery, using the Level 10 Life concept to track progress across different areas, and just… figuring out how to build a life that feels worth living.

Most of what I write falls into one of those buckets. You can poke around the blog, follow along on Instagram or my other social media.

Follow Along

If you want to keep in touch, Instagram , Facebook, and Threads are the easiest places to follow along. I usually share the same updates across all three—small wins, hard days, and what I’m learning as I rebuild.

The blog is where I slow down and go deeper—more detail, more context, and what I’m trying next.

No perfection here — just progress.

A Quick Note

I’m not a doctor. I’m not a guru. I’m not trying to sell you some perfect transformation.

I’m just a 53-year-old guy who almost died, who’s tired of putting life on hold, and who decided to document the messy process of getting 1% better every week.

If that resonates with you, stick around.

Thanks for being here.

FAQ

  • FAQ 1: What is “healthspan” in plain English?

Healthspan is how good you feel while you’re alive.
It’s having energy, strength, decent sleep, less pain, and the ability to do normal life without feeling worn down all the time. Living longer is nice — but living better is the goal.

FAQ 2: What is “lifespan” in plain English?

Lifespan is how long you live.
For me, it’s about doing what I can to avoid another heart event, keep my brain healthy, and stay here as long as possible — with years that are still worth living.

FAQ 3: What is “A Level 10 Life”?

It’s a simple way I keep track of my life without getting overwhelmed.
I rate a few areas of my life (health, home, finances, relationships, and so on) from 1–10. Then I pick one thing to work on at a time. Small improvements, steady progress.

FAQ 4: Where should I start if I’m overwhelmed?

Start with the three links I put on this page (my surgery story, cardiac rehab, and Level 10 Life).
Then pick one pillar that matters most right now: Healthspan, Lifespan, or Level 10 Life. Don’t try to fix everything at once — just start with one small step.

FAQ 5: Are you a doctor or a health expert?

No. I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice.
I’m sharing what I’m learning and what I’m doing, and I always encourage you to talk with your doctor about your own situation.

FAQ 6: How often do you post and where can I follow along?

I share most often on Instagram , Facebook, and Threads, and I add blog posts and YouTube videos as I can.
If you want the best starting point, begin with the three links on this page and then follow along from there.

Optional FAQ 7: How can I support the site?

The easiest way is to share a post with someone who might need it.
If you’d like to support financially, you can use my affiliate links or buy me a coffee. Either way, I’m glad you’re here.
